Spend more than one minute on board and you will quickly realize that this is no ordinary sailing catamaran.
This Corsair 51 is designed by Rachel Pugh yacht designers and was built and designed to sail the world with performance and absolute comfort. A no compromise attitude to the build and consideration to options selected see this being one of the best set up catamarans on the market.
My first contact with this Corsair 51 was by introduction of the delivery crew. Red eyed after a long night they still had the energy to praise the handling and performance. 1 reef in the main and a self tacking jib unfurled in 16 knots of wind doing 12 knots of boat speed in comfort and with no effort certainly impressed the crew. BTW they also arrived a day ahead of schedule on a 630nm passage without pushing.
The layout of the vessel is an owners version, galley up which opens out onto the aft cockpit.
The simplicity and practicality of the lay out and set up masks the internal intelligence and sailing performance of this beautiful catamaran.
Viewing from the salon and navigation station both to the exterior and the sails is just fantastic. This area really provides excellent viewing to the external environment. The nav station has a full suite of electronics. HF, VHF, Raymarine E140 W touch, thermal cameras, sat comms, Mastervolt touch screen control panels, Wi Fi + mobile phone boosters and AIS to name a few of the clever electronics.
The galley is beautifully appointed in a black/sliver flecked Corian bench top with excellent refrigeration both in the galley and cock pit. The island counter and abundance of storage make this galley better than most homes. Force 10 Stove, microwave, pressure and foot pump water all filtered by a Seagull water purifier. Additionally there is a rain water catcher on the cockpit hard top for the best fresh water of all.
The salon itself seats 8 comfortably at the stunning high gloss table. Full Bose life style system and pivoting flat screen TV sun woofer and surround sound. Of course all networked to the navigation system.
The owners starboard accommodation has to be viewed to be appreciated. Forward, the full size bathroom has excellent volume, is all easy to clean, conceals the washer /dryer and is decorated by hand made lacquered art work with inlaid mother of pearl shell. The queen double berth ( innerspring matress is flanked by book shelves and cupboard storage, the complete interior has LED lighting and mood lighting. Recessed fans are above the berths when Air Conditioning is not required. Nav instrumentation is also next to the master berth.
The port side accommodation consists of equally well appointed cabins. Ie fans, air conditioning and ample charging plugs for devices. The aft twin cabin is convertible to a double and the fwd พ berth with viewing ports is equally well set up. Of note in this catamaran is the abundance of side elongated hatches which provide excellent cross ventilation throughout.
The electrical system rivals that of a super yacht. Set up with dual voltage inverters and the latest electronic management systems with just under 1000 amp hours of Lithium Ion batteries. ( the best on the market ) Water marker, solar panels and underwater lights. The inbuilt dive hookah system is another very nice touch. In fact this whole boat is full of useful and clever touches.
Driven by Yanmar. 2 x 75HP sail drives. The genset is Mastervolt 7KW. The diesel is polished by a dual filter self polishing system and a RCI fuel purifier. The ground tackle is a dual windlass Maxwell chain and rode set up for redundancy and a selection of ground tackle.
The spars are all upgraded to Carbon and the sails are all Quantum high spec cruising laminates. Fusion MC 5000.
Furling screecher and a spinnaker in a sock completes the perfect sail wardrobe.
The forward and side decks are single level and make getting around on deck really quite easy. (especially at night)
Dual helm stations with carbon wheels and dual throttle controls provide excellent external vision and protection when needed from the elements.
Drawing only 2 feet with the dagger boards up will see you being able to wriggle into the shallowest of anchorages.
There are many more features which to be revealed on inspection. This is a must to inspect vessel if you are looking for something other than and standard production catamaran.
This Catamaran is fully set up and ready to go sailing with spares, tools, dingy and safety equipment. Reluctantly offered at a fraction of the original build and set up cost the new owner will be very happy indeed.
